Op 1 januari 2010 is de werking van het Centrum voor de Rechten van het Kind  (Vakgroep Sociale Agogiek, Universiteit Gent) overgedragen aan het Kenniscentrum Kinderrechten vzw (KeKi).

De oprichting van KeKi is voorzien in het decreet houdende het voeren van een Vlaams jeugd- en kinderrechtenbeleid van 18 juli 2008, en werd voorbereid door het Centrum voor de Rechten van het Kind.

Het KeKi is aldus een voortzetting van het Centrum voor de Rechten van het Kind van de Universiteit Gent, maar wordt nu gedragen door een interuniversitair platform met volgende partners: Universiteit Gent, Hogeschool Gent, KULeuven, Universiteit Antwerpen en Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

KeKi benadert de rechten van het kind op interdisciplinaire wijze en op basis van wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Het heeft als doel de interuniversitaire samenwerking rond kinderrechten te bevorderen en de resultaten van wetenschappelijk onderzoek toegankelijk te maken voor beleid en praktijk. Het wil bewust kiezen voor een kritische benadering van kinderrechten, waarin potentieel en grenzen worden verkend.

Van 5 tot 17 september 2010 vindt de internationale interdisciplinaire cursus Children’s Rights in a Globalized World: From Principles to Practice plaats. Informatie over programma en inschrijvingen is beschikbaar op www.iccr.be.

On 1 January 2010, the activities of the Centre on the Rights of the Child (Department of Social Welfare Studies, Ghent University) were transferred to the Children's Rights Knowledge Centre (KeKi).

The establishment of KeKi is foreseen in the Decree regarding a Flemish youth and children's rights policy of 18 July 2008, and was prepared by the Centre on the Rights of the Child.

Based on the international recognition of the Centre on the Rights of the Child, KeKi is rooted in an interuniversity cooperation between the following partners: Ghent University, University College Ghent, Antwerp University, University of Leuven, and Free University of Brussels.

KeKi approaches the rights of the child in an interdisciplinary manner and on the basis of scientific research. Its aim is to promote interuniversity cooperation on children’s rights and to make the results of scientific research accessible to policy makers and practice.
